Jaguars' Jalen Ramsey Provides Thanksgiving Meals or Families in Need

November 2017 - In the spirit of the holiday season, Jalen Ramsey, of the Jacksonville Jaguars, provided Thanksgiving dinner for 20 families in need at the Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida located in Springfield. Each family received a box filled with ingredients to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

First Coast Connect: JU Partners With Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida

Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida is partnering with Jacksonville University on a new 20,000-square-foot, $2.5 million facility near the school’s campus.

It’s a collaboration to help strengthen JU’s partnerships in the Arlington community. The university will lease the four-acre parcel across University Boulevard near Milne football field.      

The Boys & Girls Club is expected to use about three acres of the land and eventually be able to serve about 100 teens on the campus.

JU Offers Land, Helping Hands to Launch New Boys & Girls Club Teen Center

December 2017 - The latest component of a long term Jacksonville University plan to help revitalize its Arlington neighborhood focuses on a four-acre piece of JU-owned land now occupied by only trees and litter.

But JU has leased most of the property to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida for a $2.5 million teen club, which will also function as a laboratory of sorts for various JU academic programs and as a community meeting place.

Tebow, Other College Stars Roll up Sleeves For The Bridge Boys & Girls Club

October 2017 -  The “cafetorium,” a multi-purpose meeting space in the Bridges Boys and Girls Club, got a facelift Friday afternoon, as more than 40 volunteers drilled, taped and painted the room.

But one local painter stole the show. When Tim Tebow surprised the crowd, paint brushes stopped rolling, drills were dropped and conversation stopped.

“GANGS CAN’T HAVE OUR KIDS!” Mayor Proposes Funding to For Unmet Afterschool Programming Needs

August 17 – Following continued discussions and collaborations with Duval County Public Schools, city council members, and providers, Mayor Lenny Curry has announced his commitment to supporting the unmet after school programming needs facing numerous communities. With his proposed recommendation to City Council of $2.69 million in additional funds, 21 sites throughout Jacksonville could now open, serving approximately 1,720 additional children.

Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of Year For Northeast Florida Inspires Young And Old

Keith Gooch II is only 15 years old, but he already has a career plan and a backup career plan. In his free time, he helps younger kids steer their lives toward similarly productive futures.

That laser focus — and willingness to be a role model — was one of the traits that led the Beaches ninth-grader to be named 2016 Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida.

$500,000 Donation Brings Community Closer to Jacksonville's First Boys & Girls Club Teen Center

The Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida is a large step closer to its first Teen Center, thanks to Citibank.

The banking company announced on Tuesday that it donated $500,000 for the center. Combined with two other anonymous donations of $1.2 million and $100,000 to the organization, Boys & Girls Club of Northeast Florida CEO Paul Martinez said it’s only $700,000 away from its $2.5 million goal to build the center.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF NORTHEAST FLORIDA WELCOME NEW PRESIDENT, PAUL MARTINEZ

The newly named president and chief executive officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida attended a Boys Club himself while growing up near New York City. Paul Martinez, 54, remembers playing bumper pool, ping-pong, dodge ball, whiffle ball and basketball at the Richmond Hill club from age 6 to 13. He also remembers learning how to “play nice and compete.”
